State Department has announced that more than 24 million U.S. passport books and cards were issued over the last 12 months which marks an all-time record high in the history of the process. With the post-pandemic rush of applications now ebbing somewhat, the department is dropping its anticipated processing wait times for the first time since related travel restrictions were lifted. The State Department also advised that new applicants can expect processing times to be two weeks faster than prior: Eight to 11 weeks for routine service and five to seven weeks for expedited service, which does not include mailing time. Jambo List President and the Honorary Deputy Ambassador of the Nyeri County Diaspora Advisory Council (DAC) Serah Munyiri was among a select team of the Nyeri Diaspora leadership who hosted Nyeri County Governor H.E Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga, EGH in a historic meeting in Downtown Manhattan in New York on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting reviewed the Nyeri DAC’s activities among them Nyeri Diaspora Leadership Academy which educates 27 students from low-income families across the county. The collaboration with the county was commended because Nyeri is the only county that has established such a formal link channel with the people in the diaspora. Other activities carried out by the DAC members through the academy include food security projects like sack gardening, and square-foot gardens and environmental sustainability projects like adopting a forest in Tumutumu and other parts of Nyeri. H.E the President William Ruto officially launched the DhowCSD, a new Central Securities Depository (CSD) that offers a simple, efficient, and secure portal by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to enable the public to invest in Government of Kenya securities seamlessly. In the event that was also attended by the Diaspora Affairs PS Roseline Njogu, the president commended the Central Bank for the innovative approach but challenged its administrators to ensure that the members of the diaspora community aren’t left behind. “DhowCSD has brought about a big component of transparency in our financial market,” said the President.
